The Furies

Armand Cabasson

A profiler under the Napoleonic Empire.

Dalvers is a doctor in charge of treating mental patients. As a reward for his care of Empress Josephine, he has obtained special authorization from the Minister of Police to take part in police investigations. Called in by Inspector Caudelet, he finds himself drawn into the heart of a disturbing case. The body of a young woman in a sumptuous black ball gown was found in a closed room, surrounded by butterflies. The victim was poisoned and her genitals were mutilated. Soon, another body is discovered, and Dalvers becomes convinced that the murderer is obsessed by a woman, and that the women he kills are mere substitutes for the one he is truly obsessed with. The investigation will take the doctor all the way to Spain, on the territory of a mysterious woman nicknamed the Witch Queen

Armand Cabasson is a psychiatrist and a writer. Three of his detective novels set in the First Empire - the Quentin Margont series recounting the investigations of a Napoleonic captain - sold over 55,000 copies at 10/18 and were translated into English by Gallic Books.
