1803, The Night Of The Midwife

Anne Villemin-Sicherman

A dead man comes back to life, and awakens old fears of political unrest...

Metz, Fall 1803. An event has disrupted the city: at the Chambière cemetery, a dead man has come back to life!
But when Police Chief Albert Montfort gets there, the man pronounces one last word before dying for good: “murderer”.
The deceased - or rather the victim - is Maximilien Lacour, handyman at the hotel Le Pont-à-Mousson, owned by his parents-in-law the Plantin. Was it a resurrection, as the priest of Saint-Eucaire, Abbé Grandin, who was very close to Mrs. Plantin, maintains? Was Max Lacour the bearer of a divine message? Was he an unfortunate person buried alive, as it still happens too often? Or was he the object of a revenge?
Albert leads the investigation. His wife, Victoire, is a midwife, and masters the art of collecting confidences, which will enable her to collect information as well.

Anne Villemin-Sicherman is a doctor.
