RISTRETTO

Bertrand Puard

In some places/for some people, coffee must be black as hell, strong as death and sweet as love.

In Provence, in the villa of her friend Nina, Clara Brunante, former deontologist employed in a commodity trading firm, tries to rebuild her life with her son Theo after a suicide attempt. The bullet is still in her head, causing aggravated somnambulism and hypermnesia. After strange dreams she has one night, a body is discovered on the property.
It is Casper Mud, a former colleague. A few days later, during the G10, the President's special adviser kills himself. He also used to work for the trading company. Soon after, another current employee is found dead and a famous coffee merchant is murdered.
Each had in his possession a coffee cherry engraved with an ampersand.
The situation becomes extremely worrying for the company whose CEO, Victor d'Amadieu, contacts Clara and asks her for help and expertise, despite their rough past.
From France to Brazil via the United States, Vietnam, Italy and Ethiopia, a hunt begins.
With the help of Nina and Nicolas, Amadieu's mysterious and seductive henchman, Clara will have to discover the person who is hiding behind these death-waving ampersands and especially why these suicides look so much like executions...
