The main character is the detective Nestor Burma, a witty French crime revealer with lots of savoirfaire, operating in France during and just after World War II.

Attracted to writing and anarchy, Léo Malet (1909-1996) moved to Paris at the age of 16. In 1943 he published 120 Rue de la Gare under his own name, which portrayed the illustrious Nestor Burma for the first time. With 55 titles, 29 of which are consecrated to Nestor Burma, Leo Malet has definitely entered into the history of French literature.
