FIVE BURN CARDS

Sophie Loubière

Our life is a deck of cards that are constantly being played.

Mr and Mrs Graissac live with their two children in a sinister pavilion in Saint Flour in the Auvergne region. They divorce after he is suspected of sexual touching on his daughter. Thierry, their son, finds it a malicious pleasure to harass his sister Laurence with incessant mockery of her obesity. But the latter still devotes blind and unconditional love to her brother and father. She picks herself up thanks to high-performance sport until the day her mother and brother have a car accident: Thierry is seriously wounded and Mrs Graissac is sent to a mental institution.
Laurence comes back home to take care of her brother and financially support her family. This is how she starts working at the casino in
Chaudes-Aigues where she meets the man who will change her life dramatically.

Sophie Loubière dedicated herself to journalism for 17 years. She published her first novel in 1999. She's the author of nine novels, along with numerous short stories and radio dramas. In 2011, she gained international recognition with her novel The Stone Boy and the support of her now dear friend, Thomas H.Cook.
In addition to being a novelist, Sophie is an Associate of the SACD (Dramatics Authors and Conductors Society), and thus works to defend, promote and support authors in their environment. She's also a specialist in film music.
She lives near Paris with her husband and two children.
