A Tiger in the Garden

Anne-Marie Pol

A childhood in Indochina

Indochina, 1931. A girl full of imagination and courage, who sometimes speaks too fast, is very curious, but above all extremely endearing. This is a real story, inspired by the author's mother's childhood.
What is that, sliding through the long grass during nap time? Eight year-old Paule is the only one who knows. It's the tiger. He's coming for her. Will she manage to go near him?
When she and her brother and sisters are in their garden, sealed off from the world by the walls surrounding it, Paule has only one escape route: her imagination. Until one night, when reality comes creeping into their home to shatter their world into a thousand tiny pieces...

As a child, Anne-Marie Pol wanted to be a ballerina but a car accident crushed her dreams. She put her childhood dream into words.
