Paris, at the end of the 19th Century. Victor Legris is in his 30's and works as a bookseller. He regularly finds himself confronted with mysteries and that's good luck because he loves acting as a detective.

Early in this morning of 1894, a woman is found in front of the slaughterhouse at La Vilette. She has been strangled. Victor Legris has to find the murderer wuth just a locket with a black unicorn as a sole clue.

Claude Izner is the pen name of two sisters, Liliane Korb and Laurence Lefèvre, who are both second-hand booksellers along the Seine.
